Katsina State House of Assembly has approved the sum of N10billion requested by Governor Aminu Masari. Earlier, Masari cried out seeking for another bail out fund from the federal government which came under huge national criticism by well renowned critic Omojuwa, on why and  how the governor approved over half a billion Naira for renovation of the old government house Katsina.

Finally, Governor Masari succeeded in winning the approval from the state house of assembly members to go ahead and secure the loan.

Masari had in this year’s budget proposed the loan which he said would be used to fund critical sectors including education, health, agriculture and water related issues.

The Majority Leader, Lawal Kuraye, said the loan was necessitated by the deplorable infrastructure. He said it was under the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) palliative scheme which had already been accessed by almost all states, adding that the interest on it is two percent and it is payable in 20 years.

The Speaker, Aliyu Muduru, directed the clerk to forward the approval to the governor for execution.

Katsina State House of Assembly.

The decision by the state house of assembly to grant permission to Governor Masari to secure the sum of N10billion as a loan from CBN has generated a lot of tension in the state; some are of the view, that the governor has turned the state legislators to mere stooges. No efforts were made by the house to investigate on how the intended money is to be spent, in what possible ways did Gov Masari plan to repay back the money without suppressing the masses to hardship? Criticism is the simplest and the cheapest thing to do because it is easy to do by all. It may take the form of constructive objective criticism or otherwise as people may perceive it to be.

#3000 Almajiri children of Katsina State indigene who left the state in search of a better life both Islamic education and economic sustainability. Find their dreams if any, short-lived when the Kano state Hisbah board deported #3000 of these young children back to State of their origin.

This led to this conversation between the concerns people of Katsina who care to make their voices heard despite being accused of criticizing the government of Masari Blindly but chose to be blind and speak than remain silent in the face of adversity.

We heard that Governor Masari played host to the commandant general of Kano State Hisbah board at Al’ummah House, which was reported to be the normal courtesy call visit which later turned out to be something bigger and troubling of what it was thought to be.

Tell me more, #3000 thousand Alamajiri were deported from Kano to Katsina by the Hisbah board. So what was Governor Masari’s reaction? You can ask that again, I believe he must have set a committee to look into the case and report back their finding for the government to act accordingly. Okay I pray this time around the committees finding will reflect the real nature of the root problem to avoid a replica of what happened with the ineffective education committee report, hmm the man is trying going by his age, I don’t like my Governor being embraced when ever some assigned people, who never care failed to deliver than expected. OPINION: Half a Billion For The Upgrade Of Old Government House? Governor Masari, No Please! By Mustapha Sadiq

Masarii
It was quite long since I write on my beloved state -Katsina, since before the 2015 general elections. Of cause that is not because I have nothing to write about or no opinion to express as many things happened (both good and bad) since the inception of H.E. Governor Aminu Masari’s administration. But as many optimists are quick to sing (or rather cry or wail) anytime an issue of incompetence or ineptitude is raised about this government -not withstanding whether it is born out of genuine patriotism and the desire for the governor himself to step up or in some cases initiate or stop certain policies that are believed to bring positive change to the common man or otherwise – that ‘it is too early to judge’. So I decided to keep calm and just observe as things unfold. (more…)

Should Northern Nigeria Explore Oil and Gas? By Dr. Ahmed Adamu

Dr Ahmed Adamu

The Nigerian government plans to spend N39.4 Billion to undertake geological and geophysical surveys in an effort to explore the prospect of oil and gas deposits in the Inland-Basin of Lake Chad and upper Benue Trough. This is provided in the proposed 2016 budget, presently awaiting National Assembly’s approval, and have so far provoked political reactions from some politicians. However, none have professionally react to it.

This is a ticklish issue as it involves investing huge amount of scarce resource on uncertain venture, and at a time when the oil and gas prices are below economic benchmarks. It will cost up to $15 million to drill a single exploration well, and you will need a number of them depending on the reserve spread. This investment will have to be recouped after development and production. What determines when to explore and recovery of investment cost is largely the oil price. Recently, Genel Energy PLC requested for extension of its exploration licence in Ethiopia, so as to put off the exploration drilling and save some cash due to the dwindling oil and gas prices, which makes the exploration unviable at the prevailing oil price.
